The Lectures

The lecture on Christian Science given in Mousam Opera House was delivered by Willis F. Gross. Introductory remarks were made by Judge Herbert L. Luques of Kennebunkport, who spoke in part as follows:—

We are here tonight to learn something of that Science of Spirit which is the essence of all religions, or to add to our knowledge concerning this comparatively new religion, which under the name of Christian Science in the space of a few short years has made such advancement that its followers are numbered by the thousands and include people of all classes, and whose publications may be found in nearly every village of our land. It is an aggressive religion. We are compelled to recognize its presence, and if our understanding approves its claims as worthy of belief, we want it. To acquire a proper understanding of its merits we must study it, and listen to the teachings of those who have fitted themselves to expound its truths. We have the opportunity this evening to begin or to continue, as the case may be, our study of this religion by listening to a noted exponent of it.—Eastern Star.
