A recent issue commented on the case of an elderly lady, a Christian Scientist, who passed away, the head-line of the item reading, "Christian Scientist Dies; Refused Doctor." It perhaps will not be out of place to call attention to the fact that a young doctor's death was made note of in the same edition. He passed away under medical treatment when ill but five days, and was reported to have had the same disease. It is just as absurd to make public comment on the former case in the manner in which this was done, as to head the latter article, "Doctor Dies; Refused Christian Science Help." People will become more convinced of this fact when a just comparison is made of the efficacy of these two systems of healing.

The thousands of cases of healing by Christian Science of diseases which were considered incurable and given up by materia medica, are seldom referred to by the newspapers; but the growing number of these cases can leave no doubt in the minds of the general public that Christian Science does heal, and a majority of its cases are of those who have been given up by other systems of healing. It is hardly to be wondered at that once in a while a person passes away under Christian Science treatment, and it seems rather unfair and far-fetched to make mention of an occasional case in the manner above stated.

In the gospels it is related that on one occasion the disciples failed to heal a boy brought to them, and again it is recorded that in a certain place Jesus "did not many mighty works." These experiences did not imply that God's power to heal had waned; rather did it show a spirit of unbelief, and the questioning of the power of God to heal in His own way. Christian Science today meets these same conditions, and a like experience causes a Scientist no loss of faith or trust in God, who is "infinite, all-power, all Life, Truth, Love, over all, and All" (Science and Health, p. 17). It can safely be stated that when the demands of Christian Science are complied with by the individuals concerned, the efficacy of its healing power is proven in every instance, for, as Mrs. Eddy asks (p. 135), "What cannot God do?" Its Principle is as absolute and sure in its power to heal as was that relied upon by Jesus, for it is the selfsame Principle. His commands were, "Preach the gospel" and "Heal the sick," and Christian Scientists are striving to follow the example and commands of the Master.
