A recent issue of your paper reports a sermon by an evangelist in which there are some very incorrect and unjust references to Christian Science. There is absolutely nothing in Christian Science, or in the writings of Mrs. Eddy, its Discoverer and Founder, to justify the statement that Christian Science teaches that sin is a figment of the imagination. Christian Scientists know that sin is responsible for all the sickness, disease, suffering, and death the world has ever experienced; they know that sin presents to human consciousness many subtle arguments about its ever-presence and power; and Christian Scientists know that the understanding of the omnipresence and omnipotence of the law of divine Mind, the law of God, is all that can destroy sin and its effects.

Christian Scientists are very grateful to Mrs. Eddy, but they do not deify her in the slightest degree; and to say that they have built temples to her is absurd. Christian Science churches are monuments of gratitude to God for blessings received, and our brother's erroneous presentation of this, and what Christian Science teaches regarding sin, is ample evidence of his incompetency to present correctly any phase of Christian Science.

Christian Science is based on the life and works of Christ Jesus, our Wayshower, and to say that it is not Christian is like closing our eyes and declaring there is no light. Any one who is at all familiar with the events of recent years, knows that Christian Science is healing all manner of sin and every disease known to mankind after the manner and in fulfilment of the command of the Master that we "preach the gospel" and "heal the sick." It would be almost impossible to find a village or hamlet, however small, or a civilized community, however remote, where Christian Science healings of sin and disease are not matters of common knowledge.
