The Lectures

A lecture on Christian Science was given in the Golden Opera House. The lecturer, William R. Rathvon, was introduced by Ezra W. Palmer, Christian Science state committee on publication, who said in part:—

For centuries the Christian world has believed that God is sufficient for the complete salvation of men, to save them from sin, sickness, and death. Contrary to the teachings of Jesus, Christians have believed that this saving power of God is not fully practicable here and now, but can be realized only in some far-off hereafter. Christian Science brings a message of the all-sufficiency of divine Love to heal and save men at the present time. It emphasizes and reiterates the works and words of Jesus, who destroyed sin, sickness, and death by the power of God.—Correspondence.

On the occasion of the lecture on Christian Science for Second Church by Jacob S. Shield, the church edifice was filled to its capacity with an audience of one thousand. The introductory remarks were made by the Hon. Herbert Knox Smith, former United States commissioner of corporations, who spoke as follows:—
