Four services were not sufficient to accommodate all who wished to attend the formal opening of the new First Church of Christ, Scientist, Alvarado and Hoover streets, Sunday [Jan. 4]. There must be an extraordinary power in a movement that is not sensational, sentimental, sensuous, or striking in any of its doctrines or observances. It has survived the passing of its Founder, Mrs. Eddy, from earthly life and seems stronger than ever. Its devotees are apparently not only healthy, but thoroughly happy; they are close Bible students, yet read between the lines messages of modern philosophy and science. It seems to be simple, practical, and very helpful.
