[Written for the Sentinel.]

LOVE EVER NEAR

My child, I give thee life and health,
Thou art My constant care;
I fill thy days with treasured wealth,
With thee, My goodness share.

Doubt not My presence, though unseen,
Nor think Me else than near;
Though earth-born clouds may roll between,
The day seem dark and drear;

For e'er about, and round thee still,
The light of Love doth glow;
E'en all creation doth it fill,
With never-ebbing flow!
