I desire to tell to the world what Christian Science has done for me. About thirty years ago I was taken with a severe pain in my stomach, which gradually grew worse. It continued intermittently for months, but not until about five years from the first attack was I forced to give up eating any solid food whatever. I dieted rigidly, not being able to drink even could water, as it caused terrible pain. I lived for three years in this way, during which time I had tried faithfully two home doctors, who gave me no permanent relief, and I was advised by them to go to Boston to a hospital. In Boston I first consulted a specialist, who informed me that I had a growth in the stomach which was likely to cause my death at any time; that I could not have an operation, and that there would come a time when I could not take even the diet on which I was then existing. In two weeks I went to the hospital to consult another specialist, but he gave me no encouragement. He, however, sent my doctor a prescription, which I tried for about two years, not knowing what it was. During this time my eyesight would leave me entirely at times for an instant, and I began to wonder what I was taking. When the doctor told me that it was a poisonous drug, I decided to leave it off; but I found, on making the attempt, that I could not.

At this time a Christian Science friend offered to treat me, that I might be able to leave off the drug, and in a short time I found that I forgot to take it, and that no bad effects were manifested. But the stomach trouble remained the same, and so I continued to follow the rigid diet for eight years, after which I became able to chew meats, but could not swallow any of the solid food. I continued in this way for five years longer, at the end of which time I was advised to try Christian Science, which I did, though without faith. After having treatment most of the time for two years, one of my daughters came home one day and said she wished me to eat a piece of pie. I did so, and no bad results were experienced. From then on I gradually commenced to eat ordinary food, and for some years have been able to eat anything I wished, as I found that my stomach had been healed through the realization of the truth.

Since the healing of the above ailment, eleven years ago, I have had many other proofs of the wonderful healing power of Truth. Some ills have seemed very stubborn, and others have yielded more readily; but I feel very grateful for Christian Science. I am now in my eightieth year, and am earnestly seeking for the light as revealed in Christian Science, and I hope that others whose troubles seem slow to yield will find courage in reading my testimony.—Mrs. S.
