Two years ago a neighbor called to spend the evening at my home, and that I was suffering with a severe headache. He said, "I can tell you how to get rid of headaches," and then went on to explain that about a year previous a lady had advised him to buy a copy of Science and Health and read it with an unprejudiced mind, she believing that if he did so he would enjoy good health. This neighbor had for years required the constant services of one of our best physicians. He explained that during the past year he had enjoyed perfect health and had taken no medicine, all due to his reading of the Christian Science text-book. This sounded rather odd to me, but knowing him to be a hard-headed, successful business man, I concluded to follow his advice, which was to buy a copy of Science and Health and read it, as he had done.

Now is the time to state what will probably appear incredible to some who read this. Before stating what Christian Science has done for me, I will explain that for more than thirty years prior to the time mentioned, I suffered with headaches nearly all the time. I bought a drug in bulk, keeping a supply at my home and at my office, and took large doses several times a day. I had worn glasses for years, used cathartics nearly all my life, also used a catarrhal remedy without which I was very uncomfortable. I now bought a copy of Science and Health and started on a trip, my traveling-bag containing the usual miniature drugstore. I read the book on the trains, on the boats, and at hotels. I was away about a month, during which time I did not take any medicine, and did not have a headache or any trouble with my bowels, though it was on such trips that I formerly suffered most. I met my wife at a hotel, and in her presence destroyed all the medicine I had, and I have never taken any since. A few months later I began going to a practitioner, and through his assistance it was demonstrated that I no longer required glasses. At his request I left his office without them, and that evening I read the Journal for more than hour and got along all right for about a week, when I had to wear them again. I called on the practitioner, and he talked to me for fully an hour, when without his requesting it I handed my glasses to him, and have not needed them since. It was, however, two or three months later before I could overcome the seeming necessity for the catarrh remedy.

I still have much to learn. With me the truth comes slowly, but I study the Lesson-Sermon every morning before coming to the city. I carefully read the Sentinel and Journal, and the first thing upon arriving home in the evening, after greeting my wife, I look for the Monitor, which I consider the very best daily publication extant. I look over several New York daily papers, but I read the Monitor. I wish all my loved ones understood how I feel about Christian Science. God knows I am grateful to Him for His goodness, and I am truly grateful to Mrs. Eddy for making it possible for me to understand His goodness.—Edgar A. Walz, New York, N. Y.
