I find it difficult to express what Christian Science has...

I find it difficult to express what Christian Science has done for me, — indeed, no words are wholly adequate to express my gratitude. For five years I had been subject to colds, ending in acute lung and bronchial trouble, also sleeplessness, loss of appetite, and great weakness. I also had a throat affection, which in the opinion of two doctors demanded an operation, as I coughed incessantly.

At this time a dear friend brought me two copies of the Sentinel (the first I had ever seen). After reading them I went out, though with great difficulty, as I had to walk.

(I had received an injury in being thrown from a horse, which caused such pain in my neck that I did not ride on the street-cars any more than I could possibly help.) I bought a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and read it with no prejudice, but with no hope that it would heal me. I simply wanted to know what Christian Science was. When I had gone through the book once I knew very little about it ; at a second perusal I was scarcely any wiser, but I read it five times in as many months. I also studied the Lesson-Sermon every day and attended the services.
