THE LECTURES

San Bernardino Index

Frank H. Leonard delivered a lecture to a large audience at the Opera House Thursday evening, April 7. The lecturer was introduced by the Rev. Mark B. Shaw with the following words:—

I am a lover of sunshine, of happy thoughts, of kindly words, and of smiling faces. Nothing can give me greater pleasure than to be in the company of those who put forth their best endeavors to banish unkind words and critical speeches and rasping tones from daily life. Many of my friends and acquaintances are Christian Scientists, and I have been greatly impressed by the fact that, without exception, they seem to be happy, contented, generous, and hopeful. I do not now call to mind one of them, who, like the old farmer, "enjoyed being miserable." I do not remember one of them who has ever bored me with long stories of aches and pains, of the pangs of "rheumatiz" of "floating liver," or of just plain "mizzery." I take great pleasure in welcoming to our city one who is the exponent of fundamentals and doctrines which produce such delightful characteristics in my neighbors, and shall listen to him with pleasing expectations and alert attention.
