For several years it has been my desire to express...

For several years it has been my desire to express through our periodicals my deep gratitude for the blessings that have come to me through the teachings of Christian Science. When I was a young child my mother heard of Christian Science through the healing of a friend. In our family there had always been much illness, with attending fear, anxiety, and sorrow. We faithfully observed all health laws, and depended upon materia medica, without gaining either in general health or the ability to prevent disease; but we began to depend upon God for our help as soon as this rule in Christian Science came to us.

One of the first proofs of its efficacy in my own experience was the overcoming, or prevention, of all pain and suffering from felons on my hand. One after another they appeared, until I had had one on each finger of my right hand. Through the slight understanding which my mother had gained in studying Science and Health, pain was felt at one time only; and this was soon destroyed by the confidence we had gained of God's presence and power to protect and heal. The protecting power of Christian Science was a joy to me through my girlhood, and many of the fears and cares that burdened my friends had no part in my life. Having been in a terrible cyclone when I was quite young, I was left with a great fear of storms, but after several years of patient work in Christian Science this fear was destroyed. At the time my baby was born every condition was normal. The birth was painless and God was again proven to be the "great Physician."

Christian Science has given me happiness, courage, hope, love, confidence in God, and a changeless Principle upon which to depend in working out of any discordant condition that may arise. For more than twenty years I have taken no medicine of any kind, and in that time troubles of many kinds have been destroyed, leaving me not only well physically, but better morally. In my life Christian Science is no experiment, but after years of proof there is the solid conviction that God is the only power there is, and that there is safety in depending upon Him which can be experienced in no other way. For the few proofs I have mentioned, and for countless others even more vital in their meaning to me, I am grateful to our dear Leader, and to all the loving faithful followers who have worked according to God's law as explained by her.—Mrs. Abbie D. Kinsman, Decatur, Ill.
