Mrs. Eddy devotes one chapter in her text-books, "Science and Health...

Dayton (O.) News.

Mrs. Eddy devotes one chapter in her text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," to the subject, "Animal Magnetism Unmasked," and those who desire to understand what Christian Science teaches on this subject will do well to study this chapter carefully. No doubt even a psychologist will admit that to the human sense of things there is a pernicious influence to be dealt with, such as hatred, envy, jealousy, etc. Mrs. Eddy defines animal magnetism or hypnotism (Science and Health, p. 103), as "the specific term for error, or mortal mind. It is the false belief that mind is in matter, and is both evil and good; that evil is as real as good and more powerful. This belief has not one quality of Truth."

The teaching of Christian Science removes the mask from error and proves to those who demonstrate its divine Principle that there is no occasion to fear "goblins." It does this by teaching the omnipotence and omnipresence of God, infinite good, divine Love, which casts out fear. Christian Science is in accord with what Jesus taught: "Out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies; these are the things which defile a man." The Christian Scientist declares with the psalmist: "I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.... Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness."

Christian Science teaches that all sin is to be dealt with in a Christianly scientific manner, and overcome through the power of God in the way Christ Jesus demonstrated, and thus proven powerless.
