With a heart full of gratitude to God, and to our Leader,...

With a heart full of gratitude to God, and to our Leader, who has shown us the way to Him in Christian Science, the writer gives the following personal illustration of how "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494). The firm with which I became connected had never required service during about three or four months of the year, and taking that as the precedent, I began to look about for extra work to fill in the idle months. Necessity cried that I could not afford to be idle, that the household bills must be met; but faith in God was firm, and daily I declared the allness of God, knowing that divine Love would meet the every need. Without going into details, I may say that when the time came to leave for the summer, the management decided that I might be needed, and therefore allowed me to remain two months longer at full salary, though only working half of each day. This gave me time for which I had prayed, in order that I might be able to study, and left only one of the summer months to be provided for.

Love led every step of the way, and forced me to decline a position offered to fill in this month, even though error kept me awake nearly all one night, urging that I must keep at work, that there was no other way, etc. However, Love won the victory, and in obedience to the spiritual command, I remained at home the next morning after the struggle, and telephoned to be released from the work already engaged. Home conditions made the step seem almost criminally negligent, but the morning mail brought the "reason" for the same. A letter came from one who wished to come into my home for special treatment, and offered to pay a goodly sum for the privilege. To make the story short, the patient was accepted, and in three weeks a beautiful healing was brought about. Other healing work came, and at the end of the month, when the old position was once more open, I was twice as well off financially as I should have been under the regular office salary (all from Christian Science work). To make it doubly successful, and a perfect demonstration, upon my return to the office I was handed a check for the salary for the whole month I had been away, with the remark that the firm had decided it was right that I should have it and was entitled to it. This is one of the many demonstrations which have come under my personal observation and experience. Surely God is "a very present help."
