THE SPIRITUAL ARTIST

It is generally recognized that one who has skill in practising the arts and in applying their laws is an artist. He not only appreciates the beautiful, but gives it expression beyond the adverse decision of critics. The artist's production approaches perfection in the degree that it is true, true to the standard required by the laws of art. It was unnecessary for Giotto to do more than to draw with one stroke the perfect circle, to win his appointment in the great work of adorning St. Peter's cathedral. Not what he knew about drawing a circle, but his consummate ability to prove his knowledge was what gave the master stroke.

Mrs. Eddy says, "Beauty is a thing of life, which dwells forever in the eternal Mind and reflects the charms of His goodness in expression, form, outline, and color" p. 247. In this we see the source of the inspiring lines of Keats in his "Ode to a Grecian Urn":
