Nothing so convicts the world of faith without understanding, of belief without demonstration, as its haunting fear of that which the really well-ordered, faithful, and righteous know is not at all to be feared. Those who can see no prospect of making bright or endurable a long gray vista of days and years, have always to live the next few hours and days to reach these unpromising times.
