O Bounteous legacy! what promise this!
Could we neglect or take such word amiss?
To heal the sick, to still the angry wave,
Restore the withered hand, the sinner save—
To do as did the Master—yea, and more;
To live the life and bear the cross he bore.
Be still, my heart, that promise was to thee;
And when we know the truth that maketh free,
We too, shall say unto the seeming dead,
Arise, and find eternal life instead!
