Empire-Advance

The atonement or at-one-ment, a condition of being at one with God, is one of the most important features of the teachings of Christian Science, though its interpretation differs somewhat from the ideas held by other churches. It does not teach that Jesus came to make God at-one with sinning mortal man, but that he came as a Wayshower, to lift men to a Godlike ideal of living and thinking in which is perfect salvation. Jesus brought to earth a clearer message of the Christ or Truth, "the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world," that through this Christ or Truth men might become Godlike, or at-one with God, and thus be eternally saved.

Mrs. Eddy does not "deny the New Testament idea of prayer," but explains it in a most helpful way, as is fully attested by the thousands who are healed of sickness and sin by reading her works. It is interesting to note that as a result of her work it is being more generally recognized that the healing of the sick is a part of the work of the Church.
