LETTERS TO OUR LEADER

Brookline, Mass., Jan. 28, 1908. Mrs. Mary Baker G. Eddy.

Dear Madam:—In the name of the Presbyterians of Brookline, allow me to say that we welcome you heartily into our midst. We recognize the blessing you have been to America and humanity in giving to the world a Science which has brought healing and joy to many a home. We wish you long life to extend farther the influence which is already so widely spread and which is being more largely believed in as the years revolve. We are a congregation of working people, the only congregation of that kind in wealthy Brookline. We are making a special effort just now to raise ten or twelve hundred dollars to have our church repaired and beautified. We cannot effect this ourselves. We have thought that to such a church as ours, you might like to have the opportunity of making your first public offering in your new surroundings, and hence take the liberty of bringing our case before you.

Should you see your way to help us, you will have our heartfelt gratitude and you will be conferring a blessing on a class of people who, though they belong to the toilers, are earnestly engaged in the work of the Lord.
