My gratitude to God and to our dear Leader is so great...

My gratitude to God and to our dear Leader is so great that I wish to tell others of my experience. After great trouble and grief in Germany, and when tired of the pleasures of this world, I became a trained nurse, thinking by that means to comfort the poor and helpless sick. After a few years in a Berlin hospital, with clinics under some of the best professors, I found that medicine and surgery were a matter of belief, giving no permanent satisfaction, and, least of all, rest and peace; consequently I felt I could not remain in my work, and with devout meditation and prayer for higher light I left my country and came to America. Again the storms overtook me, and I suffered with malarial and nervous trouble, etc., until one Sunday I was led to attend the service at Third Church of Christ, Scientist, of New York city. I was at that time unable to speak or read English very well, and it was all the more strange that I seemed to understand the reading of the Lesson-Sermon and our Leader's beautiful hymn, "Shepherd, show me how to go" (Christian Science Hymnal, p. 161). Inexpressible joy and peace came to me, and I knew positively that my life's prayer was answered. I had found the open door to the one Father—God. Very soon I bought a copy of Science and Health, a Quarterly, and an English Bible, and studied every hour I could spare. During a few months of this study all my physical ailments disappeared and a great change came over me. My sick and sinful beliefs have melted away like mist before the sun, and my heart goes out in gratitude and rejoicing that I have found the living God. I have found and proved that although some hours may be dark and toilsome, God is Love and Truth, and to know this is to be free.

Words cannot express the gratitude I feel for the blessed privilege of being a follower of Christian Science.
