Youngstown (O.) Daily Vindicator

[The following excerpts from a letter recently published in the Youngstown Daily Vindicator will do much to correct the erroneous opinion that Christian Scientists fail to recognize the physical needs of their patients. In this case great relief from suffering resulted from the Christian Science treatment, which was given after two surgical operations had failed to help Mrs. Reno. Besides the freedom from suffering which Christian Science brought to her, the husband testifies to the spiritual uplifting—the happiness and peace—which came to her.—Editor Sentinel.]

Youngstown, O., May 25, 1907.

Editor Vindicator:—Will you allow me to correct an article which appeared in Friday's Vindicator regarding the death of my wife, Mrs. Sarah Reno, which said that a doctor had been called just before death. This is not true. ... Mrs. Reno's disease was pronounced malignant cancer by one of the leading physicians of this city. She was operated on at the city hospital in July, and again in November. The doctors said that the case was hopeless. They could do nothing but relieve her suffering by the use of opiates. My wife suffered untold agonies in spite of the morphine. At this time Christian Science was recommended, and I called a practitioner, Miss Ella Kroeck. From the time of the second treatment all pain ceased and my wife never suffered again. She gained rapidly and was partly able to take care of the house. ... On Thursday afternoon she complained of gas on her stomach, but that passed away. At midnight she had this same trouble, but soon was perfectly comfortable and went to sleep. Miss Kroeck was watching by her bedside, and she rested until almost morning, when she asked for a drink of water and then went to sleep again. In perhaps half an hour, on going to the bed, Miss Kroeck found that my wife had passed away.
