About eleven years ago this fall I was healed by Christian Science of what a doctor had called the worst case of kidney disease that ever had come under his observation. I had taken all the medicines which I thought would relieve my pain or cure the trouble, but without effect, and at length the doctor said he could hold out but little hope of a cure for me, though he kept on giving me medicine. He remarked that I might last a year, or I might go in a week, and that I had better put my house in order. I had taken so much medicine that I was suffering from its effects, and I really began to believe the doctor was right in his conclusions, when Christian Science found me. My wife—may God bless her—had been reading Christian Science literature unknown to me, and now spoke to me about the healing. I had never heard anything of the subject, and thought my wife had lost her reason; but she insisted, and finally brought out a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I looked the book over, and then told my wife I was ready to try the treatment. She went out, and soon came back with a practitioner. During her visit all pain left me, and after four or five days I went to my office to attend to business. In a few weeks I was perfectly well, and have had no return of the complaint. Besides the physical healing, the moral uplifting which followed the study of the Bible and Science and Health could never be paid for with money. My heart overflows with gratitude to our dear Leader for bringing us this wondrous truth in a form that it can easily be understood and applied. There is a great difference between Christian Science and materia medica, both as to expense and in moral and physical results. The doctor said I had to die; the Scientist said I should live. I am satisfied with Christian Science, and would not return to my former way of thinking and believing for all the wealth there is in this world.—Max Baumeister, Walla Walla, Wash.
