Christian Science does not dispossess the patient of the control of his own mind, nor place him under the control of another human will. The Christian Scientist, by understanding that God is perfect, and man His perfect image and likeness, is able to apply God's word in the overcoming of envy, jealousy, selfishness, sensuality, and sin in all its forms and expressions. He knows that he must first over come sin in his own consciousness before he can overcome sin and its accompanying result (sickness) in the consciousness of the patient. He is taught in the text-book of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, that he must strive to follow the example of Christ Jesus; that he must obey the Ten Commandments, love his neighbor as himself, and do nothing short of good at all times and under every condition. This text-book gives a full explanation of the scientific process, or spiritual, divine law, by which the sick are healed and the sinner reformed.

Those who use auto-suggestion and other forms of so-called mind-cure do not bring about moral reformation, while the Christian Scientist knows that sickness is permanently healed by bringing about moral and spiritual improvement and reformation, and that the healing is not the manifestation or expression of auto-suggestion or of the human mind, but of God, or infinite divine Love.
