My healing in Christian Science was remarkable, inasmuch as no less than nine different physicians had my case in their hands at different times, besides others who were either called upon for consultation or who were anxious to examine me. All, however, failed to help me; the trouble seemed beyond their reach. All who knew me then say that they never saw such a change in any one, and that they never again expected me to be what I am to-day. I never had been strong, and when about fourteen years old I had a terrible fall, after which I suffered almost constantly. At the age of eighteen I was married, and after the birth of my first baby I kept getting worse until there seemed to be no way of gaining relief. The doctors said that an operation was necessary, to which I would not then consent. About this time we moved to Cleveland, and my condition was such that I was obliged almost immediately to look for a good physician. I was fortunate in finding a most conscientious man, but he was not able to reach my case with medicine, and recommended surgery. I reluctantly consented, and according to the record of the surgeon there were no less than eleven different operations performed.

It would take too long to tell all that occurred during eight years, and also while in the hospital for two months. I want to say, however, that several of the organs were removed, and a pamphlet concerning my case was printed and a copy presented to me. The surgeon would also tell other patients of all I had gone through. For a year after this I was not able to do anything, and suffered a great deal. My physician was very much discouraged and said he would advise no one else to have an operation. A year afterwards he advised me to have massage, at the same time taking medicine from him, but it was all of no avail. Being greatly embarrassed financially; all our money having gone for doctors, and being greatly in debt in consequence, I firmly declared that I would have no more medical treatment. I was also beginning to lose faith in God; I could not understand how I had deserved such great punishment.

Finally a friend asked me to try Christian Science. I did not know what it was and said I could not afford to try anything else, but at last I went to a practitioner and asked a great many questions, although I did not have treatment until two months later. I was immediately benefited. but my healing was very slow; the last physician had said that the conditions were most serious, and if not looked after constantly would grow worse. Such was my condition when I came to Christian Science, and even while I was improving, symptoms of a much dreaded disease were manifested. I was treated for eleven weeks in Science, then treated myself, but finally had help occasionally, yet the trouble was not met. I, however, was determined to cling to the truth, rather than to undergo another operation as the doctors had told me I must. To-day I cannot be grateful enough, for in less than two years after taking up the study of Science, the dreadful condition left, although the physician had said there was not a part of my body which was not affected, and I also had serious heart trouble, besides which I had seemed to be on the verge of insanity.
