For over forty years, up to the year 1900, when I was healed by the reading and study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I had been a sufferer from severe stomach and kidney trouble, etc., which had become chronic, although I was continually using medicines and was frequently in bed under medical treatment for weeks at a time. In 1897 I had a bad attack of insomnia, for which morphine was prescribed. When I discontinued its use the attacks became more frequent and violent, until in 1900 I feared I would become insane, and this fear drove me to seek aid in Christian Science. A kind friend placed a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, in my hands, with the request that I should read it; and although I did not at first understand it, and found many things contrary to my long-established opinions, I persevered in the study of that wonderful book until the day dawned and the day star arose in my heart.

Within six weeks from that memorable day every vestige of the ailments was destroyed, and I have had no return of any since. My sight, which was very poor at the time, is now perfectly restored. Since then I have had a few slight ailments to meet, but have always found divine Mind the ever-present remedy. The years spent in the toils of mortal mind, and the money paid out for drugs, I can only guess at,—it is something I wish to forget,—but the blessings that have come into my life and the glorious prospects in Christian Science more than compensate for all.

I wish to express my deep sense of gratitude to our dear Leader for her noble life-work, by which I have been helped on the way to Truth.—R. D. Lewis, St. John, N. B.
