Ten years ago, Christian Science found me, an invalid of five years. Everything had been done for me in a material way, and I thought I was a Christian, but my prayers had availed nothing. I had become reconciled to my miserable condition, if God would only spare me to raise my two boys. It seemed as if I had every disease that flesh is heir to, especially stomach trouble. I could not eat vegetables or meat; for six months I was kept on milk, bread, butter, tea, and other foods caused me great suffering. I was almost starved, and when the weather got cold I was shut in until spring. I could not walk a half block without having a bad spell.

I shall never forget the day when a dear old lady who visited me, told me it was not necessary for me to lie there and suffer, that Christian Science could do for me what it had done for her. I could not think of giving up my many gods, however, for I thought medicine was all that kept me here. About a week after her visit, my husband begged me to try Christian Science and I refused, but one day my two little boys stood by me, and the older one, then thirteen years old, begged of me to just try it. He said, "Mamma, if they only pray for you, you know prayer won't hurt you." For their sakes I consented, and they were delighted. They went for a practitioner and soon returned, saying that I would get well. The lady gave me an absent treatment, and I slept that night like a child, something I had not done for years. I did not try to eat anything until she came next day. She told me that food could not harm me, and the next morning I ate a hearty breakfast and felt fine. After that I ate anything I wanted, and never suffered from it. I was healed of all my ills, and soon attended church. I got a copy of Science and Health, and read it almost day and night. In three weeks I made a trip of eighty-three miles on the train, then rode four miles in the country over a rough road, nursed an invalied sister for three weeks, and returned to my home. It was a marvel to all that knew me. I then walked to and from church, which was sixteen blocks, and did nearly all the work for my family of four.

The Bible is a different book to me now. I have not words to express my gratitude to our Father-Mother God. and to Mrs. Eddy, who has made it possible for even me to know a little of this wondrous truth. I have had many proofs that God is an ever-present help.
