Christian Scientists have a regard for Mrs. Eddy which borders on veneration, and how could it be otherwise, when it is through her spiritual interpretation of the Scriptures and demonstration of God's ever-presence that multitudes have been lifted out of misery and torment, "from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God"?

As I looked over the congregation one Wednesday evening I saw a man who had worn a plaster jacket for many weary months on account of spinal disease, but who was healed through Christian Science; near him sat a woman who had suffered torments for fourteen years from the effects of morphine, and who had been locked in a padded room to prevent self-destruction.

On the other side of the room sat a man who staggered into my office one winter's day, and, sinking into a chair, said, "For God's sake, help me; my children are in a vacant store room, poorly clad, with no fire, no food; my wife is in the insane asylum, and I have been drinking in an effort to drown my sorrow."
