In November, 1899, in the city of Saginaw, Mich., my husband, Thomas Locke, met with a terrible accident which I believe would have cost his life, had it not been for Christian Science. The circumstances of the case were as follows: About six o'clock Saturday, while riding on his wheel on South Washington Avenue., he was run down by a team and hose-cart on their way to a fire. The hosecart, weighing thirty-six hundred pounds, ran over his body, his face and head were bruised, his arm fractured and clothes almost torn off his body, and he was rendered helpless. He was removed to St. Mary's Hospital, though one physician thought it doubtful it he lived to get there. His fractured arm was set. At ten o'clock that evening, being prostrated from the shock, I called a Christian Science healer by telephone to assist me. The next morning my husband, knowing what Science had done for me, called for treatment, as he knew that there was no other help for him. At his request I called the healer, who gave him absent treatment and on Monday morning visited his bedside with me at the hospital and treated him. I saw the death pallor leave his face, and the flush of life re-appear. He vomited what looked black as ink, and soon said he felt much better.

The next morning the two physicians visited him and the healer was also there with me. The physicians looked at each other in surprise,—they had predicted that the third day would reveal inflammation from internal injuries. They took his temperature, and said: "Mr. Locke, you are going to live." No medicines had been administered. Within one week he was removed to our home, and he is well and attends to his business every day.
