A statement prepared in the General Land Olilo shows that 6,109,035 acres of land were disposed of by the Government during the first three months of the present fiscal year, the receipts therefrom amounting to $2,615,089, an increase of 600,897 acres in area and $1,184,910 in receipts over the corresponding period of the last fiscal year.

General Wright, vice-governor of the Philippines, has appeared before the House Committee of Ways and Means and advocates a reduction of tariff rates on Philippine goods coming into the United States to twenty-five per cent of the Dingley schedule, instead of seventy-five per cent as under the present law.

It seems probable that Vice-Governor Wright will become governor of the Philippines; that Governor Taft will succeed Justice Shiras of the United States Supreme Court, who retires by age limit, and that W. W. Rockhill will fill the vacancy on the Philippine Commission.
