Not Authorized

A letter just received informs us that Miss Sue Ella Bradshaw and Frank W. Gale, First and Second Readers of First Church of Christ, Scientist, San Franciso, Cal., have authorized no one to use their names in connection with the Willamette Oil Company, or any other similar company; and that neither of these Scientists has any interest in the said oil company.

We have heretofore, through our periodicals, expressed our views with reference to efforts to enlist Christian Scientists in enterprises of different kinds. We have nothing to say as to what individual Christian Scientists shall or shall not do in relation to private business affairs, but we do not approve of any efforts to interest Christian Scientists in business enterprises or stock companies upon representation that it is a Christian Science affair, or that Christian Scientists are interested. Let each act upon his individual judgment, wholly uninfluenced by what other Christian Scientists may or may not do.

We notice that there are other names mentioned in the same connection as those of Miss Bradshaw and Mr. Gale. We assume that there is no more authority for the use of these names than for those of the San Francisco Scientists.
