The True Grandeur of Nations

Originally too limited in operation and too short in duration, the Truce of God must again be proclaimed for all places, and all times — proclaimed to all mankind and all nations.

Recognizing those two transcendent ordinances of God, the Law of Right and the Law of Love, — twin suns which illumine the moral universe, — why not aspire to the true glory, and, what is higher than glory, the great good, of taking the lead in the disarming of the nations?

It is a beautiful picture in Grecian story, that there was at least one spot, the small island of Delos, dedicated to the gods, and kept at all times sacred from war. No hostile foot ever pressed this kindly soil, and citizens of all countries met here, in common worship, beneath the ægis of inviolable Peace.
