The Lectures

The eminent Illinois jurist, William G. Ewing, former judge of the Superior Court in Chicago, and now of the Board of Lectureship of The First Church of Christ, Scientist of Boston, Mass., lectured at the Auditorium Tuesday night (April 17) on the doctrine of Christian Science. The audience which greeted Judge Ewing was large and made up of representative citizens of South Bend, Mishawaka, and Elkhart. There were many avowed Christian Scientists present, but the greater part of the audience was made up of adherents of other faiths who accepted Judge Ewing's lecture as a source of enlightenment. That they were impressed by his lucid and dispassionate revelation of the doctrines of his church was evident by their attentive attitude.

The speaker was introduced by William Bradford Dickson, of the local Church of Christ, Scientist. Mr. Dickson said:—

Friends and Fellow Citizens:—It is, indeed, a pleasurable task to tender to this large and intelligent audience a few words salutatory, prior to the edifying lecture of the distinguished jurist who will address you this evening on the infinite theme of Christian Science. In behalf of the members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, of this city, I extend to you all a heartfelt greeting and cordial welcome.
