Healed after Years of Helpless Invalidism

The beauty, grandeur, and power of Christian Science burst upon my darkened sense nine years ago, when, sad and discouraged in mind and sick in body, after years of hopeless invalidism. I turned to it for relief.

I had sought in all directions to find health, but received only partial, temporary relief. Many eminent, kind-hearted physicians bestowed upon me their best efforts, five of them at one time assisting in performing an operation. For an hour and a half I was kept under the influence of ether and chloroform. The operation was not successful.

Previous to this I had my spine punctured in over thirty places with Spanish needles, and then croton oil and Spanish blister rubbed in to produce a counter-irritant to extreme pain at the base of the brain. That experiment also proved of no avail. I tried Turkish and sulphur baths. I was sent to the seashore eight consecutive years for the salt water baths and bracing sea air, and when that was found useless then the mountains were sought. Each year I gradually grew worse. As months went on I was confined to my room, much of the time suffering intensely, and finally could not take medicine at all, even the odor of it producing violent nausea.
