The Lectures

The Hon. William G. Ewing lectured in Hartford, Conn., on the evening of January 25 at Parsons Theatre, under the auspices of First Church of Christ, Scientist, to an audience that nearly filled the auditorium. It had rained nearly all day, and was very stormy in the evening, but notwithstanding this, almost every seat was taken in the lower part of the house before the lecture commenced. Many of Hartford's leading citizens were present and expressed themselves as much interested in the subject so ably presented by Judge Ewing.

The speaker for the evening was introduced by the Hon. William E. Simonds, ex-member of Congress. Mr. Simonds spoke as follows:—

Ladies and Gentlemen:—I am about to introduce to you a well-known gentlemen who will speak to you upon the subject of Christian Science. I am not myself a Christian Scientist, at least I do not know that I am, I shall be better able to say as to that after I have listened to the gentleman who is to address us, but I do know that I am glad to express in this way my love of fair play and free speech. If there be truth in Christian Science it will live; if it has not enough to sustain it, it will die, and the best way to administer its deserts is to let the people know all about it.
