What does it mean to be spiritual?

Bart Van Eck

One of Mary Baker Eddy’s most challenging ideas, presented in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (the book featured on this site), is that matter is unreal. She stressed that each individual is created in God’s likeness, and therefore spiritual. An understanding of this, she declared, would lead to physical healing.

In this chat, Christian Science teacher and practitioner Bart Van Eck discusses this idea and shares his thoughts on the importance of overcoming false belief in matter.

Bart explores the importance of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount and describes how an understanding of the unreality of matter helped him overcome two major physical challenges: a baseball injury at age 12 and a case of what doctors diagnosed as fatal spinal tuberculosis at age 19.

He also answers questions from site visitors about physical healing, overcoming fear, spirituality after death, and cultivating spiritual sense.
