Heed no other voice

I’m sure I’m not alone in facing stumbling blocks after having made a commitment to something good.

Over many years in my practice of Christian Science I have found consistent support in refuting interferences, especially from the following two sources: Hymn No. 10 from the Christian Science Hymnal (words by Frederic W. Root) has enjoined me to rejoice that God alone is the only power. Acknowledging this fact and heeding “no other voice” apart from God’s enable me to overcome whatever tries to keep me from taking the right path. And from the Bible, Paul speaks of “casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” (II Corinthians 10:5).

Shortly after devoting my full time to the public practice of Christian Science and advertising as a practitioner in The Christian Science Journal, I found myself questioning whether I was really on the path God was directing. Although the call to take this step—one I had worked toward for quite some time—had been very clear, I found myself looking at job advertisements to see if there was a position in my former profession.
