"More alive to His promises"

Have you ever noticed that the Bible is a book of promises?

Those whose writings make up the Old Testament held the conviction that God's promises of help and protection would be kept if an individual obeyed God. There's a classic Bible promise, for example, in a verse from Jeremiah: "Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel.... Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you." Jer. 7:21, 23.

The underlying basis for this sense of God's promising of good becomes even clearer in the New Testament. In II Peter we read: "Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, according as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises." II Pet. 1:2-4.
