The magnolia tree’s lesson at Eastertime
Katie Beth
Thousands of silken white
petals dress my star magnolia,
despite the frigid outdoor air.
Resilient blossoms hang strong,
unmoved. Sleeting rain
and whipping winds tear
at its branches. This pioneer
of spring does not wait for warm
breezes and sunshine to unfold
its blossomed beauty. It blooms
before winter’s end, still encompassed
by leafless gray. The magnolia tree:
a reminder that God directs
my path and purpose,
even if the world seems bleak. He leads
me to bear witness to spiritual,
eternal Life, to accept
His gift of ceaseless growth.
