God gives us everything we need

I’m grateful for the long drives with my mom to and from school. They’ve given me more time with my mom and have also given me the opportunity to learn more about Christian Science. Every day, we listen to the weekly Bible Lesson found in the Christian Science Quarterly, articles from the Christian Science periodicals, or an episode of the podcast, Sentinel Watch.

One afternoon, I’d had a really tough day, and all I wanted to do on the ride home was sleep. But when I got in the car, my mom told me she wanted me to listen to an episode of Sentinel Watch that she’d heard that morning. Although I was tired, I knew that I should listen to it. In this particular episode, a Christian Science practitioner talked about being asked to pray for a man. The practitioner said that he felt totally sure that God was with the man and was providing everything he needed. And the man was healed.

Even though I hadn’t slept, after listening to the podcast, I felt peaceful during the rest of the drive home.

This reminded me of something Mary Baker Eddy wrote in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: “As a drop of water is one with the ocean, a ray of light one with the sun, even so God and man, Father and son, are one in being” (p. 361). I thought of how we are one with God and how everything that God is, is reflected in us. So we must always have everything we need.

Even though I hadn’t slept, after listening to the podcast, I felt peaceful during the rest of the drive home. I was able to go about the rest of my day with energy and satisfaction, knowing that I’m one with God and that God is always giving me everything I need.

Several days later, I was playing in a softball game when a girl on the other team got hit by the ball. I saw her fall to the ground, clutching her leg. I was really worried—it looked like a painful hit. But just as I had that thought, I decided that instead of worrying, I should pray.

I’m so grateful to have seen how the insights and blessings we gain as we learn about Christian Science can apply to so many things in our lives.

I closed my eyes and immediately thought of the spiritual ideas from a few days earlier that had resonated with me. God had created this girl and was right with her, providing her with all that she needed. This comforted me and reassured me that the girl was more than fine—she was beautiful, healthy, and perfect, “even as [her] Father which is in heaven is perfect” (Matthew 5:48).

As I prayed, I found myself wanting to open my eyes to see what was happening. But I rejected that. Why would I need to confirm with my eyes what I knew was spiritually true? I knew in my heart that she was whole and well. Several moments later, I did open my eyes, and I saw the girl get up. The game continued smoothly.

I’m so grateful to have seen how the insights and blessings we gain as we learn about Christian Science can apply to so many things in our lives. I’m also grateful for the infinite, ever-present love that we can all experience and that is freely given by God, who is Love.
