Fresh inspiration for a fresh start

A new beginning isn’t always the right strategy, but there are times when it can be the most productive approach to finding a needed solution. To be effective, however, a new beginning truly needs to be an honest fresh start. So how can we find our way to a fresh start?

A statement attributed to Roman philosopher Seneca, “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end,” means to me that as we leave a previous phase behind, we take with us all that we have learned. We are enriched by our experience. And as much as we might want to hold on to a familiar approach and path, we need to be willing to let go and become open to fresh guidance. This humility prepares us for the inspiration that will provide new impetus for further spiritual growth and healing.

Christian Science reveals much about Christ as God’s guiding message to us. Jesus loved hearing and following God’s spiritual messages, and did both to the highest degree. He was identified uniquely as Christ Jesus, but this same Christ—the same leading, transforming, and healing guidance that blessed Jesus and was embodied by him—continues to bless the world today. And becoming open to Christ, the truth of God, energizes our steps toward a wonderful new beginning. The Bible gives this counsel: “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (II Corinthians 5:17).
