Always a bride?

Originally appeared on spirituality.com

Have you ever felt like you’re always the bridesmaid and never the bride? Do you imagine what it would be like to have a shining and joyous wedding day?

I’m single and have to admit I’ve had those thoughts. Recently, however, I’ve gained a whole new sense of what it means to be a “bride” or “groom,” and I realized that we are actually each a bride or a groom every day of our lives. I understand you might find that a stretch if you’ve never walked down the aisle in a wedding dress or stood at the altar in a tuxedo—or if you have, that perhaps you don’t want to be labeled a bride or groom every day! But bear with me here.

I’ve been thinking about what the “aisle” represents in spiritual terms. Couldn’t it be the pure consciousness of my thought–an aisle I’m walking down every day toward Love? Each step down this aisle is a step that improves my thought and my inseparable relationship with God.
