Prayer for safety in our schools

Our son was in middle school when the student shootings occurred at the high school in Columbine, Colorado. I wanted to reassure him and his friends that they were perfectly safe at school—but they too watched the news. They told me that in gym class they had talked about the possibility of a sniper hiding in the tall grass surrounding the sports fields.
I was surprised they were thinking this way, but then, as now, it is probably safe to say that many people are concerned about safety at school.
When I need to think things through, I turn to the Bible, because it gives me perspective on current events. The issues we face today are not new. Every problem we come up with has occurred at various points in history—just with different participants.
