A childlike attitude brings the idea that heals

Originally appeared on spirituality.com

Among victims of hurricane Katrina, people who are wrestling with health and employment issues, and those who are fearful of war and instability, you’ll find that spirituality is a hot topic. For many of them, the conventional answers no longer provide help and comfort; they want to go deeper than the surface. Yet some people find new ideas on spirituality difficult to put into practice.

One thing I’ve found helpful in thinking about this is what Jesus said about little children. He commended them because they are open and ready to accept what’s good for them—what’s God-provided. This receptivity is a key element in our growth and learning, whether we’re trying to learn mathematics or the Science of Christ, Christian Science.

Children generally dive into a new activity with gusto, and without preconceived ideas about their ability to pick up new knowledge. It’s this attitude that learning can (or should) be difficult that often gets one into trouble when mastering a new skill or idea. But if we take our cue from the childlike thought, we may move forward more easily.
