Prayer for Pakistan

Marta Greenwood, C.S.B.

In this lively chat, Marta answers questions about the flooding in Pakistan and how people can respond to it with prayer. She says that wonderful work is being done to help those affected by the floods, and our prayer in support of these efforts brings the love and law of God to bear on every situation they may face. Marta explains the importance of rejecting the temptation to accept "two-ness"—to believe that God is not in control of His creation, that we are at the mercy of whatever opposing force comes our way. Under the government of divine Mind, things can move only in the right direction. She also provides examples of specific ways that such prayer is practical and will help to meet people's needs.

Here are some of the questions site visitors asked: How can we eliminate from our minds the vivid images of the tragedy? How do I pray about people I don't know anything about? Won't working together help people resolve antagonisms between religious groups in the area? How do we pray about the fears that the Taliban will attack and maybe even kill foreign relief workers? What can we say to people who ask, "Did God send this disaster?"
