Looking for work? Start with prayer.

Steven Salt, C.S.B.

“Few things impact our daily lives more than our job,” says Steven Salt. Besides being a source of useful income, he notes that “a job provides us with a sense of worth, allows us to utilize our God-given talents and abilities.” If we’re without a job for various reasons—new to the workforce and not finding one, wanting a new job, or having lost our current job—it isn’t just our income that comes into question. Sometimes being without a job makes us feel that our personal value has been diminished as well. His response? “I’ve found that nothing is more effective than turning to God for help,” and as he answers site visitors’ many questions, he makes clear that each of us has value that can’t be lost. He also outlines a spiritual approach to finding a job, even in the face of long-term unemployment.

Questions came from people who had been out of work for several years or who were concerned about friends or family members in that situation. Some asked how to know if one is in the “right job,” how to know when it’s OK to change jobs, and how to deal with family issues when making a change. Others wanted to know how to help those who are unemployed and/or homeless.
