Prayer overcomes sudden illness
I was in a grocery store early one morning and had just picked up my first item, a block of cheese, when I suddenly felt dizzy. The store whirled around me, and my right leg lost all feeling. The cheese fell to the floor. Thinking I was about to follow, I grabbed hold of the nearest shelf.
At the same time, I reached out to God for help. Spiritual truths from the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, such as “God hath made man upright” (Ecclesiastes 7:29) and “Man is not matter; he is not made up of brain, blood, bones, and other material elements” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 475), immediately came to thought.
There were no other shoppers in the aisle, so I hummed a hymn with words from a poem by Mrs. Eddy, including these: “Shepherd, show me how to go. . . . I will listen for Thy voice, / Lest my footsteps stray” (Poems, p. 14).
