Power we can trust
Power. Just the word evokes images of authority figures and the tug of war between competing political parties or ideologies. Who has the power? Who doesn’t? How do we get it—or get it back?
It would seem that we live in a world of human power structures. One person or group on top implies that there are many below. Behind conflict lies the desire to wrest control from another, sometimes by any means believed to be necessary.
Within that framework, it’s difficult to attain uniform justice, genuine unity, or lasting peace. Mercifully, the Bible and its key, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, reveal the true universe—the universe of God’s creating, in which God doesn’t have the most authority but all of it; any other perception of sovereignty is an inverted and mistaken one. As the book of Psalms puts it unequivocally, “Power belongeth unto God” (62:11).
