Willing to give up the past?
We need to close the door on the world of mortal history and open the door to our eternal spiritual story.
Do you want to make some really fast progress in understanding your true identity? Try moving away from a concept of yourself as the cumulative effect of a human past.
That’s right. Stop identifying yourself by your parentage, your birthday, your first date, your school grades, your job, your last vacation. This requires taking your concept of yourself out of time and putting it where it belongs—in eternity. You must move thought, including your sense of identity, out of what might be called a world of a mixture of matter and spirit and into the true world, which God, Spirit, has created—one that is purely spiritual.
This is not a one-and-done task. But isn’t this exactly what Christ Jesus encouraged us to do in many different ways? You could say that a significant theme of Jesus’ career was encouraging his followers (including us) to become conscious that our real place, here and now, is in God’s kingdom.
