Waking to a truer sense of Life

It was a surprising moment. As I was praying to better understand healing in Christian Science, I realized that all my life I’d had a very limited sense of what is revealed in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. Obviously, the practice of Christian Science is a learning and growing experience. But at that moment, I saw that I had been praying from the basis that life, substance, and intelligence were held basically in matter. And so I had been trying to “apply” spiritual truths to make matter better. What I truly needed was to accept (really accept) the Bible’s revelation that life, substance, and intelligence are in and of God, Spirit—and that everyone’s real individuality is entirely spiritual.

Healing in Christian Science is fundamental, essential, for it leads us to God and the understanding that healing is a discernment and demonstration of reality—as made clear by Jesus: “If I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you” (Matthew 12:28).

Love was shaking my mental shoulder, telling me to wake up to a purer sense of what the discovery of divine Science really means.
