Family needs met

Nearly five years ago my husband and I had the desire to expand our family. When I found out I was pregnant with our third child, we were living in a place that had served our family well for six years but that we were quickly outgrowing. I prayed to God and affirmed that He was already giving our family everything we needed to thrive and grow. As my pregnancy progressed, I continued this prayer and listened for God’s direction to guide us to the necessary steps to take for our growing family.

We did not have much money saved up, and I wasn’t sure how we could afford a bigger home, but I persisted in praying and seeking God’s guidance. I found comfort in the Bible and loved the promise in Psalms 36:7: “How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.” I knew that if I continued to place my trust in God and His goodness rather than in material circumstances, we would have what we needed.

Six months into my pregnancy, I was still unsure of our future plans, but continued to pray. In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy states, “Home is the dearest spot on earth, and it should be the centre, though not the boundary, of the affections” (p. 58). I thought about the idea of home as not a physical structure but rather a quality of Spirit, God. Our home comes from God, who is our complete source of supply and love. Our growth as a family was not contingent on the space we inhabited but the love we expressed. My husband and I loved being parents and were so excited to welcome another baby—another one of God’s complete ideas—into our family.
