Healing of a skin blemish

A few years ago I had a healing that brought home to me the truth of these remarkable sentences in the Christian Science textbook by Mary Baker Eddy: “There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 468).

For more than a year there was a spot on my body. It was a bit itchy but otherwise didn’t bother me or seem serious. Then, suddenly it turned ugly and threatening. I was frightened.

Years earlier, a spot on my face had been diagnosed as skin cancer and was removed by a plastic surgeon. This time, however, I phoned a Christian Science practitioner to pray with me for healing. During the prior year I had made a deep daily study of the chapters “Genesis” and “The Apocalypse” in Science and Health, and “Genesis” begins with this statement from the book of John: “All things were made by Him; and without Him was not anything made that was made” (p. 501). In other words, everything was made by God, Spirit, and therefore was made of Spirit, not matter. And that included me! But I felt I needed help to really understand and accept this as the truth about me.
